Also referred to as a Venti Mask. These are considered a high flow device as the mask delivers all of the air flow required by the patient. These masks either use multiple adapters to select how much FiO2 will be delivered to the patient on a single/multi position adapter. The usual FiO2 delivered with these masks are 0.24, 0.26, 0.28, 0.30, 0.45, 0.50, and 0.60. The biggest advantage of these masks is the ability to deliver a precise amount of oxygen to the patient and that FiO2 is independent of the patient’s respiratory rate or depth of breathing. At the higher FiO2’s, a large amount of oxygen is required to produce sufficient flow. For example, at a FiO2 of 0.60, 14lpm of oxygen is required. These devices should be connected directly to the oxygen source and not to a humidifier. Oxygen tubing with a normal length of 2.1 meters is attached to the mask. Other lengths of tubing may be provided.
